First of all, I’d like to formally admit that I love retail therapy, especially when it comes to my skin.
I can’t help myself. I need retail therapy. I have so many skin-related gadgets and gizmos that my husband thinks I’m ridiculous. I have some that I LOVE and some that will probably sit in my drawer for a long time. Today I’m going to share with you some of my favorite ones that won’t sit in the back of your cabinet, and won’t break the bank either!

#1. vibrating jade rollers
If you’ve been on the internet at all, you’ve seen a jade roller. They’ve been around for centuries, but thanks to social media have gained a lot of popularity in the last few years. While I’m not convinced that the actual stone imparts any benefits on the skin, I do believe facial massage does wonders for the complexion. It pushes out excess fluid and improves lymphatic drainage, leaving the skin looking more toned and less puffy (which, as we age, gets worse all the time. Ugh.)
Now, when I first saw “vibrating jade rollers”, I rolled my eyes. I thought the vibration would feel cheesy. However, they came in a cute pink color and looked sturdier than the regular rollers so I gave them a try.
I LOVED THEM.
ALL MY CLIENTS LOVED THEM.
If you’ve ever had a facial with me, you know what I mean. Those rollers knock people out everytime, I don’t care what we’ve been talking about or how hard we were laughing moments before. I love them and I like the extra benefits from the vibration:
- improves lymphatic drainage (slimming)
- improves circulation (glowing!)
- increases product penetration
- helps relieve sinus pressure
- super relaxing
Put them in the fridge for bonus benefits!
Here are 2 brands that I have tried:
#2. silicone face brushes
Most people do not properly cleanse their face, and it’s so important! It’s the fountain of your skin care routine. Otherwise you are layering creams or expensive serums on top of your gross face oil or makeup or whatever else is lurking in your pores! Yuck.
*While we are on that topic- WASH YOUR FACE EVERY NIGHT. I don’t care how tired you are. Do not sleep in your makeup and give me nightmares. Wash off the day and all it’s oil, dust, grime, and gunk. Do not rub it into your face all night on your pillow case. Rant over.*
Now, for most people, washing with your fingertips is not enough to get everything out. You could use a washcloth or a brush, but those gather bacteria quickly and become a science project. I recommend a silicone facial brush. They are anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, and the little nubbies clean more out of your pores than fingertips alone.
Below I’ll add a link for a manual brush, but in a future post I will be talking about the benefits of an oscillating one. They are more, but much like the jade rollers, the vibration helps a lot. And they have timers because your cleansing routine should be more than 5 seconds.
#3. silk pillowcase
Since we are on the subject of washing your face at night and not rubbing all the gunk into your pores, let’s talk about pillowcases. First of all, cotton pillow cases can absorb product and healthy oils from your skin and hair, making them dry. Not to mention wasting good product on a silly pillowcase! Now think about how many hours you spend on your pillow, and how much dead skin, oil, sweat and product will build up over just a few nights. And if that isn’t enough to gross you out, all that is an absolute feast for dust mites, which eat dead skin and love warm, moist environments.
I know, GROSS!! Some people are actually allergic to dust mites. It can cause a blemish like reaction in certain types of rosacea. Not to mention waking feeling puffy and watery-eyed. Overall, disgusting. You don’t want that.
The solution? Get a silk pillowcase! They are naturally antibacterial, repel dust mites, and smooth the frizz in your hair. They also prevent face creases (which can cause deep wrinkles) and help your skin and hair to naturally retain moisture.
You should look for at least 19 mommes, which is like thread count for silk. The higher the number the softer the material will be. I’ll also throw a vegan option below too!
